Tunneling+ explained

A same-season, same-tracking-regime rank of qualified pitcher arsenals by average fitted path proximity. Higher means closer paths.

Definition and interpretation

Tunneling+ = 150 − 100 × (ascending midrank of raw Tunneling inches − 0.5) / number of eligible pitchers.

100 is the eligible cohort mean; higher means closer average paths. It is a rank index, not a percentage improvement, a measure of pitch effectiveness or a validated skill.

Coverage and limits

Requires a qualified arsenal, at least 100 fitted pitches across five games with coverage checks, and at least 30 eligible pitchers in the same season and tracking regime. Each type with at least 10% competitive source usage must be coverage-supported, as must at least 90% of its other competitive-type source usage. Smaller or missing cohorts have no Tunneling+; raw inches can remain visible. Different tracking regimes are not pooled.

At least 100 qualified pitches across five games and 30 same-season, same-regime reference pitchers; no public leaderboard.
